Interbee is Japan’s annual broadcast equipment exhibition. The focus this year is on 3D stereoscopic, digital signage and of course HD although that has been in a topic in Japan for several years.
I spent quite a bit of time of course at Sony and Panasonic, but the rest of the time I split between the “IPTV-Mobile TV-Cross Media Zone” and attending a conference held by the JAPAN NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS to discuss the challenges for content producer and local stations during the digital age. It was heavily attended by many of the local and regional broadcasters who were trying to find a way to cope with the increasing production costs and the decreasing sponsorship funds. As for the IPTV…Zone, there is a lot of future applications that everyone should be paying attention to. At the conference, there is great anxiety from all parties about how to get enough sponsorship to make good content, and how to sell content overseas. There is no definite solution, but there were a lot of interesting ideas and proposals thrown on the table. Of course it was a great way to improve my Japanese listening skills.
